This year, we were lucky to attend the beast that is Mobile World Congress 2019, in Barcelona. The MWC series is the world’s largest exhibition for the mobile industry, and incorporates a thought-leadership conference featuring prominent executives representing global mobile operators, device manufacturers, technology providers, vendors, and content owners.

MWC hosts more than 109,000 visitors from 198 countries and territories. More than 55 per cent of this year’s MWC attendees held senior-level positions, including 7,900 CEOs. There were 3,640 international media and industry analysts at the event to report on the many significant industry announcements.

So significant is MWC that preliminary independent economic analysis indicates that MWC19 will have contributed approximately €473 million to the local economy.

This year’s event was heavily centered around intelligent connectivity and 5G. It also featured new “Mobile devices” – such as cars, smart homes, smart businesses.  A great deal of focus on user experience and harvesting user data and information, as well as network security.

For Auka, MWC was of huge significance; with more than two dozen companies focusing on mobile payments and data harvesting from those customers.

While we were there for three days, we attended and participated a number of meetings and conversations with fellow industry experts, thought leaders and prospective partners. What we all unanimously agreed on without doubt was the explosion of mobile payments. There was a real excitement in the air knowing that the opportunities for the financial services sector in partnership with the mobile industry are limitless, as are the benefits of convenience and value for users and customer experience.

With this, there were many people at MWC that expressed a keen interest and enthusiasm for what Auka was bringing to the table with our Settle app launching across Central Europe this year.

We know that Settle is the easiest way for banks and telcos to offer mobile payments to consumers and merchants. MWC was a positive reinforcement that our vision for Settle was coming to life. There was a large number of telecommunications companies and integrators at the event that had either entered the planning stage or were in the midst of evaluating a mobile payments solution to offer its customers. Several commented that Auka´s Settle solved a key challenge for the industry, and would save them significant time and investment in developing its own solution. In addition, the partner / reseller space also provided feedback that they saw a valuable opportunity for the Settle solution not only in Europe but around the world.

As the need and uptake of mobile payments continue to increase year on year, this is definitely an event we will be part of in the future as we bring our customers, partners and prospects on board. To find out more about Settle, visit
