Our international team is growing! We are very happy to have a new lead UX Designer, Chitu Stefan from Romania. Here is a quick interview with our talented new employee!
How long have you worked for Auka?
I just started at the beginning of March 2020.
What is a challenge UX designers face these days?
It can be difficult when you build a feature that affects people in a negative way, even though that wasn’t your intention.
What is the best part about your job?
Being able to work with a diverse group of people to change the world by building a product that solves real human challenges.
What was your dream job growing up?
That’s simple … a designer. I’ve always looked at people that “create stuff” because they influence the world around us and they have a cool swag. I just couldn’t figure out if I wanted to be an Industrial Designer, Car Designer, Architect, Graphic Designer … so I have tried them all for at least a few months 😁. Eventually, I became a UX designer mostly because I love computers and at the time, I thought I can bring more impact through technology.
Who do you admire the most?
There are quite a few inspire me:
What is your biggest achievement or what do you feel proudest of?
In terms of social impact, my proudest projects are “Intelcare” and “Let’s Do It! World”. Intelcare is a telemedicine solution that helps save 13 million people/year in Pakistan and “Let’s Do It! World” is a mobile app that helped clean 85.000 tons of waste from 180 countries during the “World Clean Up Day”.
Give one prediction for ten years from now?
Machine learning algorithms will be an integral part of our daily lives.
Your favorite quote
“I intend to show you that design is a political act. What we choose to design and more importantly, what we choose not to design and, even more importantly, who we exclude from the design process— these are all political acts.”

What is one piece of advice would you give to others who want to be a UX Designer
Learn about design in a structured way (here’s something that can help), never place humans in second place, and always play like an underdog.
